The Daulat by Hotel Calmo Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Daulat by Hotel Calmo on Madras Street, you immediately know you’re in the heart of something authentic. This three-star property sits right in the pulse of Little India, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building itself has that classic Singapore shophouse charm — nothing flashy, but there’s something reassuring about its straightforward approach to hospitality.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s great about staying here? You’re literally surrounded by the real Singapore experience. Step outside and you’re hit with the aroma of spices, the chatter of vendors, and colorful sari shops lining the streets. The MRT station is just a few minutes’ walk away, which means you can easily hop over to Orchard Road or Marina Bay when you want the touristy stuff. But honestly, some of my best meals happened within a two-block radius of this place — there’s this incredible banana leaf restaurant around the corner that locals actually frequent.
The Room Experience
I’ll be straight with you — the room won’t win any design awards, but it’s clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in such a bustling area. The air conditioning works well (crucial in Singapore’s humidity), and the bed is actually pretty comfortable. What I appreciated most was the attention to basics — good water pressure in the shower, reliable WiFi, and enough parking space nearby if you’re renting a car, though honestly, you won’t need one in this neighborhood.
What Makes It Special
The staff here genuinely seem to care about making your stay work. They’re not just going through the motions — I mean, when I asked about finding good local breakfast spots, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map with his personal recommendations. That kind of touches you just don’t get at the big chain hotels. Plus, the whole vibe feels more like staying in a neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble, which I think is what travel should be about. The apartment-style setup with basic kitchen facilities in select rooms adds to the homey feel.
Why Guests Love It
Recent guests have been rating this place highly, especially couples looking for an authentic Singapore experience without breaking the bank. It makes sense — you’re getting solid value in one of the city’s most culturally rich neighborhoods. The 6.1 rating might seem modest, but honestly, it reflects realistic expectations rather than inflated promises. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or rooftop pools here; you’re paying for a genuine slice of Singapore life with all the convenience of being centrally located. If you want to experience the real character of the city rather than just checking off tourist boxes, this spot delivers exactly that. Whether you’re here for business or leisure, the straightforward hospitality and authentic neighborhood setting make it a memorable choice.
Exploring Singapore blends rainforest domes, street food pilgrimages, and sunset cruises framed by futuristic skylines.

Reviews of The Daulat by Hotel Calmo
Exceptional – Pankaj from India (7/10)
I like the most second floor. Outside table near to swimming pool. Which is good to use for multiple purpose. With a fresh air. We can drink too there. Also we can seat group of people there.
The stay was pleasant and comfortable. Staff was helpful and friendly. – Amuthavalli from Singapore (6/10)
Location was alright. Staff was friendly and helpful; just a phone call away. Helped me to get into my room as there was only 1 key card issued per room but my kids and I had different schedules. The loft was nice and cozy. Layout was nice. Our rooms were adjacent so we shared the balcony where we could chat and go into each others' room without using the front door.
Pleasant – Megan from Australia (6/10)
Great location if you'd like to explore the colourful hustle of Little India. It is situated in a quiet street but close to everything. For what you're paying, it has the basic amenities.
Good – Tania from Australia (7/10)
Staff: very friendly, helpful and courteous, right across the board from reception, porters, cleaning staff.
Room: good size room and bathroom on first stay, different room on second stay, not as good.
Electric stove top x 2 hobs, but no cooking items, 2 dinner plates, 2 forks and 2 spoons,
2 mugs. Microwave but no dishes to use. All areas in hotel very clean.
Breakfast: plentiful and buffet style 7am- 1 pm. Food very good.
Lots of Notices up in area: “no removal of buffet foods permitted, All food taken must be consumed in this area” They also had staff roaming to keep an eye out so this could be monitored.
As we checked out on both occasions before 7 am, I requested a take out breaky pack and this was provided and waiting for us upon our departure, without any fuss.
Location: on the booking .com print out, it’s address is shown as City Walk. This is not the case as is a few blocks away from City Walk.
The Mazaya Centre has seen better days, there were notices that upgrades were occurring in the hotel room on our 1st visit and on our 2 nd visit, it looked like nothing much had been done. Not much around by way of good eating places, however close to the train station which was easy to access and use , to go into other areas.
Both stays, our room overlooked car parks and 2nd stay we were on side of busy main road which was very busy and noisy, day & night.
Overall, happy with our stay, would I stay again? NoFair – Anisa from Singapore (5/10)

While the hotel's location is commendable, there's a lot left to be desired in terms of quality – Ferina from Singapore (5/10)
One of the standout features of the place is its affordability. Furthermore, its strategic location is a food lover's dream come true. With an abundance of food stalls surrounding the area, you're never short of options, whether you crave local delicacies or international flavours. Accessibility and the convenience of having a myriad of dining choices at your doorstep make this hotel a top pick for those visiting the area. Highly recommended for budget travellers looking for convenience!
Never again and do not recommend it. They have the nerve to offer a discount if you give a good ref. – Alida from Australia (5/10)
