Nostalgia Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Nostalgia Hotel on Tiong Bahru Road, you immediately get why this four-star property has such a devoted following. The building itself feels like it belongs in this neighborhood — there’s something understated about it that fits perfectly with Tiong Bahru’s blend of heritage charm and modern sensibility. I mean, you’re not going to mistake this for some flashy chain hotel, and honestly, that’s exactly the point.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Singapore’s Tiong Bahru district — you’re genuinely in a neighborhood, not just another tourist zone. The hotel sits right in the heart of one of the city’s most interesting areas, where Art Deco buildings house trendy cafes and local hawker stalls coexist with artisanal bakeries. You can walk to the famous Tiong Bahru Market in about five minutes (trust me, the carrot cake there is worth the trip), and the MRT station is close enough that getting anywhere else in Singapore is actually pretty effortless. What really struck me is how couples seem to gravitate toward this area — there’s something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets together.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this thoughtful, lived-in quality that made me feel like I was visiting a well-traveled friend rather than checking into a generic hotel space. The design leans into that nostalgic theme without going overboard — you know, vintage touches that feel authentic rather than forced. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom had everything you’d want without unnecessary frills. What I appreciated most was the attention to small details, like proper lighting for reading and enough outlets where you actually need them.
Dining & Daily Rhythms
While the hotel has its own restaurant, I found myself drawn to exploring the incredible food scene right outside the front door. Tiong Bahru is honestly one of Singapore’s best neighborhoods for food lovers — from the traditional zi char stalls to newer spots serving exceptional coffee and pastries. The hotel staff seemed to understand this too, and they were genuinely helpful with recommendations that went beyond the obvious tourist spots. There’s something nice about staying somewhere that encourages you to experience the real neighborhood rather than keeping you locked inside the property.
Why Guests Love It
After spending time here, I can see why recent guests consistently rate the location so highly — it’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing authentic Singapore while still having easy access to everything else. The hotel doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and there’s real value in that kind of honesty. You’re paying for a well-run, comfortable place to stay in one of the city’s most characterful neighborhoods, with staff who actually seem to care about your experience. For couples especially, there’s something special about having Tiong Bahru as your home base — it’s intimate enough to feel romantic but interesting enough to keep you both engaged.

Room small but bigger than expected. Above corner room on the top floor. Pool wonderful when returning back from a day out. Friendly staff who facilitated an early check on which was very helpful after a long flight. Left luggage also helpful. Right opposite the Hawkers market and MRT only 2 min walk away

We loved the location of the hotel. Set in a great neighbourhood with minutes walk from an artisan bakery and authentic food market. For our budget, the hotel was adequate and offered everything we needed but what set it aside was the staff. The staff was incredibly friendly, courteous and went out of their way to help us with everything and to make our stay comfortable.
