Kam Leng Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Kam Leng Hotel on Jalan Besar, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be something it isn’t — and honestly, that’s refreshing. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Singapore’s Lavender district, where the real city happens away from the tourist crowds. The building has that classic Singapore shophouse vibe, and while it won’t win any design awards, there’s something authentic about staying somewhere that feels genuinely local.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re actually in a neighborhood where Singaporeans live and work. Jalan Besar is one of those streets that’s been quietly gentrifying, so you get this interesting mix of traditional coffee shops next to hip cafes and vintage stores. The MRT stations are close enough (Lavender and Jalan Besar stations), but you’re not dealing with the chaos of Orchard Road or Marina Bay. I mean, you can walk to Little India in about ten minutes, and Bugis is just a short ride away.
The Room Reality
Let’s be honest about what you’re getting here — the room is compact, which is pretty standard for Singapore unless you’re dropping serious cash. But it’s clean, the air conditioning works well (crucial in this climate), and you’ve got the basics covered. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space considering the size. Don’t expect fancy amenities, but the WiFi is solid and the shower has good water pressure — sometimes that’s all you really need after a day of exploring the city.
Local Dining Scene
You know what’s great about staying here? The food situation is incredible, and I’m not talking about the hotel restaurant. Right outside your door, you’ve got some of the best local eats in the city. There’s this fantastic zi char place just down the street, and the coffee shops serve proper kopi that’ll wake you up faster than any Starbucks. The night market on weekends is walking distance, and honestly, you’ll eat better and cheaper than if you were staying in the tourist zones.
Why Guests Love It
The thing about Kam Leng Hotel is that it delivers exactly what it promises — no more, no less. Couples seem to really appreciate the authentic neighborhood feel and the fact that you can actually experience Singapore like a local rather than just hitting the typical tourist spots. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward hidden gems that most visitors never find. Sure, it’s not flashy, but if you want to stay somewhere with character that won’t break the bank, this place makes sense. Plus, that parking situation is way better than most places in the city center — if you’re driving, you’ll appreciate not circling blocks looking for a spot.
Hotels near me in Singapore deliver effortless MRT access to heritage districts, island getaways, and rooftop bars.

Reviews of Kam Leng Hotel
Excellent value with some room for improvement – Mohd from Singapore (7/10)
Location is excellent. The bus stop in front of he hotel has all the good buses that go to Orchard, Chinatown and the heartlands. Staff was warm and friendly. Room is clean and rustic.
It was quite okay – Sitanggang from Indonesia (7/10)
I like the shower, the bathroom is okay, except the window placement is a bit weird, if opened it's directly open to the main road. Room is okay, bed is okay, amenities can be better, maybe add more snacks and tea instead of only 2 sachets of Indocafe. When I was staying they are still renovating. I paid $120, and it was a bit below of my expectation

The bus stop and a convenience store is just on the other side of the street.
According to the staff, the construction is already complete which is a nice timing for our stay. The hallway is airconditioned but kind of creepy; however, there's a relief when you get to your room – it's nice.
Also, the cleaning staffs are doing a good job when you request for a clean up.
For those who did not receive their deposits back, just don't lose the slip, we got ours during the check out process.

The Hotel is over the road from a 7 Eleven and walking distance from Little India and a couple of subway stops on different lines. The air con keeps the room cool even when it's off during the day.
