Hotel Yan Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Yan on Tyrwhitt Road, you immediately get this sense that someone actually thought about design here. It’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top — just clean, modern lines with some really nice touches that make it feel more sophisticated than your typical three-star spot. The lobby has this calm, minimalist vibe that honestly feels refreshing after navigating Singapore’s busy streets. The attention to detail throughout the public spaces sets a welcoming tone for your stay.
The Lavender Neighborhood
Here’s what makes this location special — you’re in the Lavender district, which means you get that authentic local feel without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Tyrwhitt Road itself is pretty quiet, but you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from some incredible hawker centers and local eateries that most tourists never find. The MRT station is close enough that getting around the city is actually easy, but far enough that you’re not dealing with constant noise.
Couples seem to really appreciate this neighborhood — there’s something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets in the evening. The area strikes that perfect balance between being accessible and maintaining genuine character that makes Singapore so compelling to visitors.
Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — and I mean that in the best way possible. Everything has its place, the bed is surprisingly comfortable, and there’s enough storage that you don’t feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. The bathroom is modern and well-maintained, which honestly matters more than you’d think after a long day exploring. What really impressed me was the attention to lighting — they’ve got it figured out so you can actually read comfortably or create a more relaxed atmosphere when you want it.
Local Insights
Being on Tyrwhitt Road puts you in this sweet spot where you can walk to some of Singapore’s best-kept food secrets. There’s this amazing zi char place just around the corner that locals frequent, and the coffee shops in the area serve proper kopi that’ll wake you up better than any hotel brew. The neighborhood has character — old shophouses mixed with newer developments, and you’ll see everything from families heading to school to young professionals grabbing breakfast. It feels like real Singapore, not the sanitized tourist version.
Why Guests Love It
Recent guests keep mentioning the location, and honestly, they’re onto something. This isn’t about being in the heart of Orchard Road or Marina Bay — it’s about finding that balance between accessibility and authenticity. The staff seems to understand that travelers want genuine recommendations, not just the standard tourist spots. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that couples consistently rate highly — it suggests the place has figured out how to create a comfortable, intimate atmosphere without the premium price tag of the big-name hotels downtown.

Reviews of Hotel Yan
Exceptional – Miquelaa from Sri Lanka (8/10)
The hotel was extremely clean and the staff were great. They helped with everything, even booking a car to the airport when we left. The room is small but the bathroom is extremely clean and you can request your room to be cleaned everyday. Free water bottles are provided and everything in the mini bar is free as well. There is a kopitiam right across the street with affordable food.

The generous sized entrance foyer was helpful, post check-out, for sorting our belongings out ready for departure to teh Airport.
Good – Nigel from New Zealand (7/10)
The room was actually tiny, just enough room at bottom of bed to store our suitcases, no other storage in the room. We adapted to make it work, but were taken aback how small the room was.
It was a pleasant stay. The hotel is in an excellent location but it needs some updating. – Lissett from Australia (7/10)
