Hotel Calmo Chinatown Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Calmo Chinatown on Trengganu Street, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked away just enough to feel like a discovery, but close enough to everything that matters. This three-star spot doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which honestly makes it more charming. The building has this clean, modern look that stands out nicely against the traditional shophouses lining the street, and you can tell they’ve put thought into making the entrance welcoming without being flashy.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Singapore’s Chinatown — you’re literally in the heart of one of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods. From the hotel, you can walk to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in about three minutes, and the hawker centers are so close you’ll smell the char kway teow before you even step outside. The MRT station is right there too, which means getting to Marina Bay or Orchard Road is ridiculously easy. What surprised me most was how quiet Trengganu Street actually gets at night, despite being surrounded by all the action.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed — they’ve clearly thought about how to maximize every square foot. The bed was comfortable enough for a solid night’s sleep, and the air conditioning worked perfectly (which, let’s be honest, is crucial in Singapore). The bathroom was clean and modern, though don’t expect a lot of counter space for spreading out your toiletries. I actually appreciated the minimalist approach — sometimes you just need a comfortable base to crash after exploring the city all day.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here have this nice rhythm to them. You can grab coffee from one of the traditional kopitiams just steps away, or there’s a decent selection at the nearby cafes that cater more to the international crowd. The hotel staff is genuinely helpful with recommendations — they pointed me toward this amazing zi char stall that I never would have found on my own. Evenings are perfect for wandering the neighborhood streets, and you know what? Coming back to a quiet, comfortable room after the sensory overload of Chinatown feels just right.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it gets the basics right without trying to be fancy. The location really is exceptional — couples seem to particularly appreciate how walkable everything is, and I can see why. You’re close enough to Singapore’s main attractions but staying somewhere that feels authentically local. The value is solid for what you get, especially considering you’re in prime Chinatown real estate. It’s the kind of place where you spend most of your time exploring the incredible neighborhood, then come back to a clean, comfortable space to recharge for the next day’s adventures.

Pleasant – Patrick from United Kingdom (6/10)
The single room was incredibly small, mattress on the floor and shower plus toilet difficult to manoeuvre in. I would imagine a prison cell would have more space.
I asked to change rooms and was given one with double bed bunk beds. At least the bed was off the floor. Four people in this small room would have been uncomfortable.
Not a recommended hotel.Uncomfortable – Pradip from Australia (4/10)
I won't suggest staying at this hotel. The only reason it's worth the money is that it's close to all transp – April from Malaysia (5/10)
