Hotel Bencoolen at Hong Kong Street Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel Bencoolen at Hong Kong Street, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in the heart of Singapore. This four-star property sits right in the Boat Quay district, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — there’s a reason couples give it a 9.2 rating for romantic getaways. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, but you know you’re somewhere thoughtfully designed. The attention to detail in every corner reflects a commitment to guest satisfaction that sets this hotel apart from typical business accommodations in the area.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re literally steps away from the Singapore River and all the action of Boat Quay, but tucked just far enough back that you won’t hear the late-night revelry from your room. Clarke Quay is a quick stroll away, and the financial district is right there if you’re here on business. I mean, you can walk to Raffles Place MRT in about five minutes, which makes getting anywhere in the city incredibly easy. The location score of 9.1 isn’t just marketing fluff — it’s actually earned. Being positioned at Hongkong Street gives you access to both the vibrant nightlife and peaceful riverside walks without compromise.

Room Experience

The rooms strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and practical design. You’ll find everything you need without feeling like you’re drowning in unnecessary amenities. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-speak comfortable), and the bathrooms are well-appointed with decent water pressure — something you don’t always get in older Singapore buildings. What really impressed me was the attention to soundproofing; despite being in such a central location, the rooms stay surprisingly quiet. Each space has been carefully considered to maximize both relaxation and functionality for business travelers and leisure guests alike.

Dining and Social Spaces

While the hotel doesn’t have an elaborate restaurant setup, you’re honestly spoiled for choice in the immediate area. Boat Quay has everything from hawker-style spots to upscale dining, and the hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you solid recommendations. The lobby area works well for meeting people or just planning your day, and there’s something nice about having a calm base when you’re surrounded by so much energy outside. The proximity to diverse dining options means you can explore different cuisines without traveling far from your accommodation.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Singapore, but it gets the fundamentals absolutely right. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, the location is unbeatable for exploring the city, and you’re getting solid value for what you pay. Couples especially seem to appreciate how easy it makes romantic evenings — you can stroll along the river, grab dinner at any number of great spots, and be back in your comfortable room within minutes. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying in Singapore rather than just visiting it. Whether you’re here for business or leisure, this hotel delivers on its promise of comfort and convenience.

  • A Good Stay Near Many Great Areas – Yanilay from United States of America (9/10)

Although I stayed here with my friends, I booked separate rooms, so I will be speaking on mostly my behalf in terms of my room. We took the MRT from the airport, and walked about 10-ish minutes from the station with all of our luggage. I loved the location of this hotel. It's a short walk to Clark Quay, the MRT train station, and Chinatown. There are a couple of 7-Eleven convenience stores, restaurants, and a laundromat very close to the hotel. There is plenty of nightlife and restaurants in the Clark Quay area.

My room was spacious (Premiere Double Room), much larger than the room my friends stayed in (Executive Twin Room). I had plenty of room to store my luggage. The bed was firm (as expected in South East Asia), but still spacious and comfortable. There was ample lighting in the room, and the AC worked well. The Wi-Fi was very fast and reliable, and there were many channel selections on the TV. I appreciated the stocked water and coffee everyday. There is an ice machine and water dispenser in the lobby. Speaking of, the lobby smelled nice. The staff were friendly, and made our check-in and check-out process smooth.

My room included a soaking tub, which I made sure to take advantage of during my stay. It took awhile to fill up, but it was clean and worth the upgrade. There was toothbrushes provided, and a frequent restock of toiletries and replacement of towels when used. I appreciate the fridge in the room, given how fast food spoils in Singapore's lovely but humid climate. That saved me from having to throw away a bunch of leftovers and other perishable foods. The room I stayed in also had plenty of windows, letting in natural light and a partial view of the iconic Marina Bay Sands.

  • Perfect location, breakfast not much choices – Alessio from Italy (7/10)

The hotel is located in a perfect position useful to reach all the places.

  • A well-located, confy spot to spend a few days in Singapore. – Alejandrogarciaquismondo from Spain (8/10)

Location is great and staff is friendly and helpful.
They have a courtesy breakfast buffet.

  • Good – Tracy from Australia (7/10)

It was close to Boat Quay

  • Wonderful – Celia from Portugal (9/10)

The room wasn't very big but it's Singapore so bigger acommodations would be expensier. That being said, the room was comfy and very clean. The breakfast was nice. The hotel location was good, we could walk to the Subway neerest station. The AC worked perfectly and we had a huge flat screen on our room.
