Location & Island Life

Sentosa Island gets a bad rap sometimes for being too touristy, but Capella Singapore occupies this perfect sweet spot away from the theme parks and crowds. You’re still close enough to walk to Palawan Beach if you want some sand time, but the hotel’s position on The Knolls means you get these incredible views over the South China Sea instead of looking at other hotels. My room had this wonderful blend of British colonial touches and modern Asian design, with a marble bathroom that felt like a private spa. I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up confused about what time zone you’re in, which is exactly what you want when you’re dealing with jet lag or just need to properly unwind.

The breakfast situation is actually quite good — they do both continental and buffet options, so whether you want a quick coffee and pastry or the full spread with local specialties, you’re covered. What I really appreciated was having free parking (which isn’t always a given in Singapore), and the spa treatments are the kind that make you want to extend your stay by a day just to fit in another massage. The pools are stunning too, especially the main infinity pool that seems to spill right into the ocean horizon.
